Trash Collection

Trash Collection Rules and Guidelines

As part of the Trash Reduction pilot program, all regular household trash should be bagged only in the official City-issued Orange trash bags before being placed out for collection.

Each household (homes with 4 units or less) will be provided with 15-gallon orange trash bags and 8-gallon green food scraps bag to use during the pilot program. If after recycling and separating out your food waste, you find that your household needs more bags during the pilot, you can purchase additional trash bags at local retailers. (Retailer list to be provided at a later date.)

Place your Orange trash bags and Green Food scraps bag curbside in your trash container by 6am on your collection day. Bags go together in the same container.

Do not place the following items in the Orange city-approved bags:

  • Recyclable plastic, glass, or metal (place in recycling bin)

  • Food scraps (use green bags)

  • Yard waste (wait for seasonal brush pick up or bring to the Transfer Station)

  • Dirt, sod, concrete, or rock

  • Construction/demolition debris

  • Household hazardous waste

  • Hot ashes or flammable materials such as oil, gas, or paint

For more information on bulky and oversized waste, please see the City of Ansonia’s Curbside Pick-Up Policy and Procedures

Certain items such as hazardous waste, medications, chemicals, construction materials, electronics, etc. cannot be disposed of in the regular trash or through curbside recycling. To learn more, visit the City of Ansonia Department of Public Works
